Young Bluebirds Finish With 10 Players at Forest

Cardiff City sent a young team to Nottingham Forest for a Professional Under-23 Development League fixture at the City Ground.

Midfield player Lloyd Humphries returned after recovering from injury, while Tyrone Duffus was also in the Bluebirds squad.

Under-18 players Ben Margetson and Jac Davies were both included in the starting line-up, while Ibrahim Meite added pace and experience in attack. Former Harrow Borough striker Meite has made two first team appearances for Cardiff and played for Crawley Town on loan last season.

Cardiff finished with 10 players after defender Ciaron Brown was forced off by injury after they had used all three substitutes.

Forest climbed to third in the table thanks to their 2-0 win against Cardiff. Second-half strikes by Toby Edser (61 mins) and Virgil Gomis (68) secured the victory for the home team, who are unbeaten in four matches.

Edser capitalised on a defensive error to finish clinically from 20 yards, while Gomis made it two with a low shot.

The next under-23 match for Cardiff is against Coventry City away on Friday (1pm), while they entertain Millwall at Cardiff International Sports Arena on Monday, September 24 (2pm).

Craig Bellamy’s Bluebirds’ under-18 team travel to play Bristol City on Saturday (September 15), while they entertain Crystal Palace at Cardiff ISA on Saturday, September 22 (11am).
