Airbus Take Off In Style For New Alliance Season

Airbus Broughton, the only team in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance with a 100 per record, take on Gresford Athletic at home on Saturday.

James Hooper fired the Airbus winner in a 2-1 win against Ruthin Town which secured their fourth successive victory.

Asa Hamilton gave the Airmen a 1-0 lead after 11 minutes, a lead they held until nine minutes into the second half when Llyr Morris equalised.

Five minutes later James Hooper scored the winner for Airbus.

Flint Town United and Porthmadog fought out a 1-1 draw. A long throw-in Flint was diverted into goal by Jack Lewis to give the Silkmen a lead after nine minutes with Sean Edwards equalising for Porthmadog on the stroke of half-time.

Porth had the better chances in the second half, but failed to convert any as both sides earned a point

Buckley shaded the first half at home to Conwy Borough with Shaun Tinsley opening scoring for them two minutes before half-time. The second half was an even contest until Buckley’s goalkeeper conceded a penalty which Corrig McGonigle scored to level the scores.

Another lapse in concentration resulted in a Conwy free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. McGonigle’s shot was blocked only for Cory Williams to net the rebound to earn a second Conwy win in a week

Holyhead Hotspur looked to be heading for their first points of the season when they led visitors Llanrhaeadr YM t2-1 at the break.

Jamie McDaid’s goal double for Hotspur gave them the lead with Marc Griffiths netting YM’s goal.

Llanrhaeadr were level five minutes into the second half through Khyan Wytton and Griffiths made it three wins from four games with their winner in the 66th minute.

Prestatyn Town earned their first win of the season, at Holywell Town. After a goalless first half skipper Dave Hayes netted the only goal after 71 minutes to steer Prestatyn home.

Goalkeeper Aaron Jones has signed for Flint following the knee injury sustained by Josh Hart.

Teenager Jones, 19, started out with Wrexham as a junior, before moving onto Manchester City’s Academy and then joining Everton. He spent five years with the Toffees, up to the age of 17, and played for Wales at youth level.

Jones moved to TNS as number two behind Paul Harrison last season, moving on to find regular first team football.

Flint manager Niall McGuinness described Aaron as an athletic player with great shot stopping ability. He also said that his distribution skills will also benefit his team’s style of play.

Outfield player Andy Brown has been playing in goal for Flint, helping them to a win against Holywell Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Flint had a player sent off, but emerged 3-2 winners after extra time.

Matthew Kendrick scored to give Holywell the lead, while Luke Blondell headed an equaliser after tremendous work by man of the match Jake Hampson on the right wing.

Flint had Tom Kemp sent off on a straight red, but they forced the game into extra time and then went ahead following a long throw. Kyle Smith flicked the ball on and sent a looping header into goal.

The Wellmen equalised in the second period of extra time when Kendrick grabbed his second of the evening, forcing the ball in following a goalmouth scramble from a corner.

A penalty shootout looked likely until Brandon Burrows took possession and coolly slotted into the net.

Airbus have been drawn away to Flintshire neighbours Connah’s Quay Nomads in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

The other ties in the Northern Section of the draw are: Rhyl FC v Llandudno, Prestatyn Town v The New Saints, Flint Town United v Bala Town.

Ties are scheduled to be played on October 2.
