Holywell Town hopes of closing to within one point of Huws Gray Alliance leaders Caernarfon Town were wrecked by the weather.

They led 4-0 after only 22 minutes against Llandudno Junction at home when the match had to be abandoned.

Leaders Caernarfon were without a fixture because their scheduled trip to Ruthin Town was postponed and Holywell started strongly.

But then referee Mike Gray paused the game after Town’s fourth goal to allow ground staff the chance to work on a problem area in the centre circle.

Groundstaff, coaching staff, committee members and supporters came assisted in putting sand down to help cure the immediate problem, but their efforts were dashed when the match was abandoned.

Steve Thompson, Steve Lewis and Sam Jones gave Holywell a three-goal lead in eight minutes, while Lewis had a goal disallowed in a one-sided contest.

He wasn’t to be denied, though, and Lewis added his second after 20 minutes, lobbing the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.

Guilsfield and Flint Town United drew 2-2 in a hard fought clash.

Chris Cathrall put Guilsfield ahead from Callum Bromley’s pass after six minutes, while the big flashpoint came when Asa Hamilton was penalised for a late challenge.

It seemed that Hamilton would be cautioned, but he eventually saw red for dissent after remarks to a linesman.

Flint equalised against 10-man Guilsfield after 35 minutes, but the home team regained the lead at 2-1 when Bromley netted (43 mins).

Alan Bull completed the scoring when he netted Flint’s second just before the hour.

Holyhead Hotspur won 1-0 against FC Queens Park thanks to a Kenleigh Owen goal, while Rhyl drew 2-2 against Penrhyncoch at the Corbett Sports Stadium.

The pace of James Murphy, Aaron Pomeyie and Alun Webb created problems for the visitors and Rhyl went ahead when Will Bell headed into the Penrhyn net.

That was the only goal during the first half, but Clean Davies equalised from a free-kick. Rhyl regained the lead when Webb scored after 73 minutes when his cross evaded defenders and goalkeeper alike to go in.

Penrhyncoch hit back again to complete a 2-2 scoreline when Matt Mousley crossed and Sion Meredith sent a downward header goalwards.

Rory Crowther, 21, made the save, but Meredith forced the loose ball home from close range.

There was more drama to come with Rhyl midfield player Jordan Barrow sent off for a foul and they then conceded a penalty.

James Brewerton made a clumsy challenge in the penalty area and a Penrhyncoch player went to the ground and Dan Fogarty awarded a spot-kick.

Goalkeeper Crowther, though, was up to the challenge, dived to his right and pushed Cledan Evans’ shot on to a post.

Rhyl felt they should have won, but it could so easily have been a defeat against a well organised Penrhyncoch if they had netted from that penalty.

“We are disappointed in both the result and our performance,” said Rhyl manager Matthew Jones. “We never got going and didn’t create that many chances.

“In the end goalkeeper Rory Crowther saved a penalty to make sure we picked up a point, but collectively we didn’t reach the standards expected.”

Airbus Broughton defeated visitors Porthmadog 6-0 with six different goalscorer.

There were three goals in each half with Alonso Fosu-Mensah, Leo Riley and James Hooper leading the way before second half strikes from Ryan Edwards, Steve Tomassen and Oliver Lanceley completed the tally.
