Prostate Cymru Joins Major Trail Running Festival As Charity Partner

Prostate Cymru have joined forces with the 2018 Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival, as they are officially announced as the event’s lead charity partner.

The new partnership will help raise awareness of prostate cancer throughout Wales, as well as offering runners an opportunity to fundraise for this worthy cause.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Welsh men – and the charity is determined to engage with even the most rural areas of the country.

More than 1,000 runners will head to Builth Wells on Saturday 19 May 2018 to take in the stunning scenery of Mid Wales during the Royal Welsh Spring Festival.

Many of those tackling the half marathon and 10K trail courses will hail from the local farming community, a demographic that prostate cancer continues to affect.

Over the next year more than 500 Welsh men are expected to die from prostate cancer, however through their work Prostate Cymru continue to make great progress in educating men on the importance of getting checked by their local GP.

The charity also places great emphasises on the role that women have in tackling the condition, through encouraging male friends and family members to visit their doctor and look out for the warning signs.

Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival Race Director, Steve Brace, said: “We cannot wait to bring a new and improved Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival back to Builth Wells next year.

“We’re delighted to have Prostate Cymru on board as lead charity to help raise awareness of Prostate cancer throughout Wales and in the rural community. We’re looking forward to welcoming all the runners who will be flying the flag for this worthy cause.”

Chief Executive of Prostate Cymru, Tina Tew said: “We are excited to be the lead charity partner for the Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival in May 2018. It is a great family friendly event to be involved with and we are looking forward to raising awareness of prostate cancer in Mid Wales and the rural communities.”

The 10K and Half Marathon trail courses start and finish in the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells and take in valleys, fields, woodland tracks and stunning forestry. The 3K Trail, Family Mile and Toddler Trail, offer something for all ages and abilities.

Castell Howell Foods are Principal partner for the 2018 edition of the Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival. Castell Howell supply regional Welsh produce across the length and breadth of the country.

This year brings a host of exciting changes. With the race expected to grow in size even further, race packs will now be posted prior to the event, and 10K and half marathon races will start separately in a new and improved start and finish area, located next to a revamped race village.

Competitors will now be chip-timed as they cross the start and finish line, whilst family and friends can track their progress on a brand-new smartphone app.

Entries are still available for the half marathon and 10K trail races, as well as the family mile. Prostate Cymru are offering free running spaces to those that wish to participate in the event and fundraise for them.
