Dundee Stars 0, Cardiff Devils 4
Cardiff Devils returned to winning form and earned a convincing victory in Scotland.
Captain Jake Morissette and his team scored three goals during the first period and maintained their grip over the 60 minutes.
Former Stars player Justin Faryna, Matthew Myers, Patrick Asselin and Layne Ulmer scored Cardiff’s goals in front of 700 spectators at Dundee Ice Arena.
Coach Andrew Lord was in the Devils team, while Paul Crowder started his three-match suspension and Matt Pope was ruled out by injury.
Cardiff travelled to Scotland after losing against Milton Keynes Lightning (2-5) and Manchester Storm (1-6) last weekend.
Lord pledged his team would be back to their best against Stars and they backed up his words with action.
Devils were dominant and go into this Saturday’s Elite League home match against Braehead Clan full of confidence.
Faryna scored first against his old team with a rebound goal past netminder Travis Fullerton three minutes five seconds into the first period with Ulmer and Mark Richardson picking up assists on the goal.
Myers got the final touch on a powerplay goal after 11-50 to put the Devils 2-0 ahead with Sean Bentivoglio and Jake Morissette assisting on the goal.
Devils scored again at 17-10 when Asselin finished off a passing play between Joey Martin and Andrew Hotham to complete the first period scoring and give the visiting Devils a 3-0 lead.
The middle period saw opportunities for Stars to get back into the game with three consecutive powerplays, but Devils were up to task on the penalty kill.
Man of the match Ben Bowns made big saves to deny the home team when they did create shooting chances.
Devils scored their fourth goal when Ulmer tipped in a Drew Paris slapshot at 52-09 with Gleason Fournier earning the second assist.
Josh Batch and the Stars’ Emerson Hrynyk dropped the gloves in the closing minutes with the Devils man coming out on top.
Coach Omar Pacha’s Dundee team had a four-game 100 per cent home record before taking on Cardiff and Lord’s men produced a solid team display to take the League points.
Devils have one match this weekend with Glasgow-based Braehead playing at Ice Arena Wales on Saturday (7pm), while they entertain Vaxjo Lakers in Champions Hockey League action next Tuesday (7pm).
