Merthyr Town have been drawn away against National League South club Havant and Waterlooville in the FA Cup.
The Martyrs travel to Westleigh Park in Hampshire for the second qualifying round tie on Saturday, September 16 (3pm).
In-form Havant are fourth in the National League table, having scored 14 goals and conceded five in eight fixtures. They have suffered one defeat
Havant had a strong run in the 2007-08 FA Cup, beating York City, Notts County and Swansea City before being knocked out against Liverpool at Anfield in the fourth round.
The Swans were League One leaders, 83 places ahead of Havant in the English football pyramid, when they were beaten 4-2 in a third round replay. The teams drew 1-1 in South Wales before settling the issue in Hampshire.
“A dream had been achieved and I’m so proud to be manager of this team,” said Havant’s Shaun Gale. “We were brilliant throughout. Great opportunities like playing at Anfield in the FA Cup only come once in a lifetime and I told the players that you’ve got to grab them when they come. That’s what they have done.”
Havant had promised in the build-up that they would not allow Swansea to play the passing game which would have almost certainly seen them hammered out of sight, and they stuck to their word.
They went at their more illustrious visitors from the outset, tactics which had earned them a replay at the Liberty Stadium 12 days earlier, a match which also saw two players, sent off and 15 become involved in an on-pitch brawl.
Alan Tate, Swansea’s captain, and Brett Poate were the men dismissed. Tate was suspended from the replay, while Poate was able to play for Havant because the disciplinary rules took more time to deal with at their playing level.
A Gary Monk own goal gave Havant the lead and it was Poate who crossed for the goal.
Jamie Collins made it 2-0 and Rocky Baptiste added a third, sending 4,000 home fans packed into the ground into raptures.
Guile Bauza pulled one back, while Leon Britton then saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper Kevin Scriven.
Three minutes into the second half Jason Scotland tapped in from close range for the Swans, but the Welsh team were down and out when substitute Tom Jordan headed Havant’s fourth.
Now Southern League Premier Division Merthyr Town head to Hampshire for an FA Cup test against Havant and Waterlooville.
“It is nice to be at home because Merthyr Town will be tricky opponents,’ said Havant manager Lee Bradbury, a former Portsmouth and Manchester City player.
The Martyrs won 6-1 against Willand Rovers in the last round with Momodou Touray (2), substitute Kerry Morgan (2), Kyle Patten and Jaye Bowen scoring.
The draw for the FA Cup third qualifying round will be made on Monday, September 19.
Merthyr Town are at home against Bishops Stortford in a Southern League match at Loadlok Community Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
