Captain Sean Morrison Commits To Bluebirds Until 2020

Sean Morrison has committed to Cardiff City for another three years and says: “There’s something special happening at our club.”

The Bluebirds captain has signed a new three-year contract and said today: “I made it clear that I wanted to stay at Cardiff City and the gaffer (Neil Warnock) told me he wanted me.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here for the next three years.

“I’m really pleased to have got things done so quickly having spoken to the Board and the Gaffer.

“Our form towards the end of last season showed what we’re capable of as a team and hopefully we can take that straight into 2017-18.”

Morrison, 26, was speaking at the Duchy College, Cornwall after Cardiff’s morning training session.

He joined Cardiff City in 2014 and has made 120 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals. Sheffield Wednesday were among clubs keen to sign Morrison this summer, but he wants to play for Cardiff.

Manager Warnock is delighted Morrison is staying with Cardiff, saying: “You’ve got to take your hat off to Sean.

“He could have moved on having been made quite a lucrative offer, but he told me, ‘I don’t want to Gaffer – I think there’s something special happening here.’

“He thinks we could really do something in the new season and that shows great commitment to the club and where we are right now.”

Executive Director Ken Choo commented: “It was important that we secured Sean’s future this summer.

“He’s been an excellent captain for us so far and we’re looking forward to having him for another three years.

“We had no hesitation in extending Sean’s time with us and we see him as a key part of our future.”

Former Reading and Huddersfield Town defender Morrison will play against his home town club Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Friday (7pm).

Cardiff are joined in Cornwall today by their under-23 development team, who play against St Austell this evening (7pm).
